Meet Laura Pugh (nee Newnes), ACILEx, Legal Manager
I joined McKenzie Law in 2013. My time at ML has flown and I feel proud of what we are achieving here for our clients. The practice has grown and developed significantly – the team has doubled in size and moved from Claremont Bank to Dogpole House.
My move here saw me take on a more senior role whilst continuing to act for lots of interesting clients and develop my professional connections. Being a key part of the practice as it continues to develop gives a real sense of achievement. We all work hard to continue to grow and build the firm’s reputation -the fact that so many clients give us positive testimonials gives me a real sense of job satisfaction. I enjoy getting to know clients and helping people.
I went to school in Church Stretton and then Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, before my legal studies with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives Tutorial College. I have been working in private legal practice for 11 years and am an Associate Member of The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
I began my legal career in 2005 working with John Garrard at Garrards Solicitors, Shrewsbury. I had the benefit of an excellent training as John shared with me his knowledge, wisdom and expertise from his many years of legal practice. I remained with Garrards Solicitors until 2008 when I moved to Wace Morgan. I spent the next 5 years dealing with many varied matters including complex Probate cases, many involving farms and businesses. I learnt a lot from being part of a larger firm but I could also see the many benefits of being part of a smaller, specialist firm.
Away from the office family life keeps me very busy and I still find time to enjoy the great outdoors, which living on the welsh border is close at hand!
I love a challenge and have this year completed the Powis Trail 10 – my first 10k Trail Run. I’m now on the lookout for my next challenge!
