We were pleased to have the opportunity yesterday to give a talk to the Peer Support Group arranged by the Shrewsbury branch of the Alzheimer’s Society at the Roy Fletcher Centre. The meeting was well attended and we were asked to speak about the importance of making a Will and issues that can be particulary relevant where dementia has been diagnosed, and also Powers of Attorney. Laura gave a very helpful summary of the position in relation to older Enduring Powers of Attorney and Lasting Powers of Attorney. She spoke about the benefits of health welfare Powers of Attorney as well as reminding people who were attorneys about their legal responsibilities, duties and potential liabilities. There were lots of questions from the audience which is always good.

Claire Parry joined the meeting and gave really helpful summary advice about NHS continuing healthcare funding, Local Authortity care funding and third party top-ups.

We had some super feedback afterwards from the audience for which we are very grateful.

‘Very instructive session, I feel I want to go on a rally to show my concerns over paying for care.’

‘Thank you so much to the solicitors – much food for thought!’
